Obituary

A funeral service for John J. Bebout, 63 of Harbor Hills will 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2021 at First United Methodist Church, 88 N. Fifth Street, Newark with Pastor Barbara Wood Salyers officiating. Burial will be in Newark Memorial Gardens. Facemasks are required and social distancing will be observed.

John passed away peacefully after a long illness at Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio on Monday April 5, 2021.  He was born July 30, 1957 in Newark to John J. and Ivadel D. (Schisler) Bebout.

John enjoyed an attitude of generosity and helpfulness to others. He was recognized as an all-around "Good Guy." He was a lifetime member of the Newark First United Methodist Church and served on various committees, volunteered with the community dinner, New-Ark Emmaus, SOWER program, greeter and dedicated over 30 years as an usher at the 8 am service.

He was active with several friends in the Believers Bible Study. He was also involved in family activities. He enjoyed OSU sports and had a passion for fishing.

John was a 1975 graduate of Lakewood High School and in 1982 received a bachelor's degree in Business Finance/Real Estate from The Ohio State University. He was employed as a Real Estate Appraiser for the State of Ohio. He had also operated his own lawn care service, had been employed at Owens Corning Fiberglas, Deumead Corp and Anne Cook's Realty Office. John had served as a substitute teacher in the Licking County School Systems especially in the Lakewood School District. He was a member of the Licking County Realtors, member and past president of Heath Moundbuilders Kiwanis Club and Masonic Lodge F&AM # 97.

He is survived by his sister, Dr. Joy Stovcik and brother-in-law, Dr. Ken Stovcik of Thornville; three cousins and numerous friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew, John J. Stovcik.

A visitation will be observed Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark.
