Jerry L. Riley, 77, of Dresden, Ohio died Monday morning, December 22, 2014 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville.
Born March 16, 1937 in Zanesville he was a son of the late Joseph G. and Helen (Lane) Riley and attended Frazeysburg Schools. Jerry was a leader with Boy Scouts of America for 35 years and received the Silver Beaver Award, one of Scouting's highest awards. He also received the Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow and the Founder's Award of the Order of the Arrow.
Mr. Riley retired in 1999 from the custodial and maintenance department of Tri-Valley Schools with 30 years of service. He had previously worked at the Dresden Mill for many years and after his retirement he worked in the equipment maintenance department at the Longaberger Golf Course.
Surviving is one son, Dan Riley of Dresden; a brother, James (Sandy) Riley of Stow, Ohio; several nieces and nephews and his faithful dog, "Buddy".
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 45 years, Karen S. (Sarbaugh) Riley whom he married June 14, 1964 and who died May 5, 2009 and a brother, Thomas D. Riley.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Friday, December 26, 2014 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.
Funeral services will be 10:30am Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Dresden United Methodist Church, 1014 Main Street, with the Rev. Greg Inboden officiating. Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery at a later date.
