Obituary

Funeral services for Jerry L. Barton, Sr., 69, of Heath will be at 6:00pm Tuesday, February 6, 2007 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert L. Knox officiating. The Veterans Alliance of Licking County will conduct military honors following the service. Mr. Barton died Friday, February 2, 2007 at Licking Memorial Hospital. Born August 25, 1937 in Philo, Ohio, he was the son of the late Howard and Anna Bernadine (Buck) Barton and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving with the United State Air Force. Mr. Barton retired in 1986 after 30 years of service with Rockwell International of Heath. He was a past member of the Newark Moose, Buckeye Lake Eagles, Newark Eagles and the Newark Druids Club. Jerry enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and reading western books. He particularly enjoyed his beloved pets, his dog, Oscar and his cat, Sassy. He is survived by, and will be deeply missed by, his wife, Donna L. (Hash) Barton, whom he married December 6, 1980, his children, Jerry Barton, Jr., Raymond Barton, Paul Barton, Janet (Ted) Ramsey and Carol (Bud) Freeman, all of Newark; grandchildren, Carrie Frances Barton, Raymond Barton, II, Teddy, Raymond, Mickie and Marshall Ramsey, Jessica (Steven) Freeman Persley, Jennifer and Coby Freeman and Nichol Waldren, who has lived with her grandpa and grandma from birth; great grandchildren, Joshua Corsi, Raymond Barton, III, Eddie Ramsey and Hayden Persley; step-children, Leroy Walden of Frazeysburg, Laura (Bryan) Bowersox and Jody Waldren, both of Lancaster, Ohio, Kelly (Jeff) Fetter and Joe Waldren, both of Newark; step-grandchildren, Tyler and Felicia Waldren, Bradley, Tiffany and Branden Hayman, Lita and Sebastian Fetter, Brian McBride and Zack Decker; brothers James Barton of Malta, Ohio, Bill (Vicki) Barton, Raymond and Carl (Joyce) Barton, all of Newark; sisters, Evelyn Grise of New Mexico, Sheila Arthur of Texas, Barbara (Kenneth) Yockman, Nita (Phil) Kasson, Kay (Don) Swonger, Dodi Smith Gallant and Lori (Louis) Mitchell, all of Newark, Pat (Ken) Moran of Frazeysburg and Sherry (Bill) Smith of Johnstown; brothers in-laws and sisters in-laws, William (Cybal) Hash of Texas, Jim (Mary) Hash and Tom (Patsy) Hash of Frazeysburg, Freda (John) Shaw of Newark, Betty (Don) Householder and Sarah (Louie) Blerin of Pataskala; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances E (Nethers) Barton, who died August 2, 1978, a brother, Richard Gene Barton, a nephew, Jason Kasson and a brother in-law, Bob Hash. Calling hours will be from 4pm to 6pm at the funeral home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark.
