A funeral service for Jeannine S. Betts, 88 of Newark will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home with Walter Hickman officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Jeannine passed away Tuesday morning, December 4, 2018 at Middleton, Granville. She was born March 30, 1930 in Mitchell, South Dakota. Jeannine was the original owner and operator of The Book Nook in Newark and worked at Avis Rental, Walker & Battat Ford. She was active in the 60's and 70's in politics, working at campaign headquarters, holding office in the women's club, elected precinct committee woman, and member of the Central Committee. She also worked as presiding judge at the polls. Jeannine was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge and doing crafts with her friends. Jeannine and Bob enjoyed traveling in their motor home throughout the US. Most of all, she loved her family and time spent with them.
Survivors include sons, Steven Betts of Columbus; Jim (Peg) Betts of Newark; a daughter, Debby (Jack) Pryor of Granville; grandchildren, Stephanie (Todd) Grubbs, Rachel (Bill) Purcell, Dawn Deming, Jennifer (Walter) Hickman, and Carri (Dave) Krieger; Great grandchildren, McKenzie & Delaney Grubbs, Lindsay, Riley & Will Purcell, and Lucas and Eli Hickman.
Mrs. Betts was preceded in death by parents Winfield and Ethel Wilt; her husband of 64 years, Ralph Robert "Bob" Betts, Jr. , whom she married January 15, 1949 and who died, November 15, 2013; and a brother, Jim Slettebak.
Friends and family may call 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 at VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME – NEWARK CHAPEL, 1850 W. Main St., Newark.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio, P.O. Box 430, Newark, OH 43058-0430; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the caring staff and excellent care Jeannine received at Sharon Brooke and Middleton.
