Obituary

Jay Alan Martin, 68, of Westerville, Ohio, formerly of Dresden, Ohio quietly passed on to his eternal home Monday afternoon, July 30, 2018 in Columbus, Ohio.

Born May 23, 1950 in Zanesville, Ohio he was a son of Forrest L. Martin of Galena, Ohio and the late Virginia (Huey) Martin, who died March 11, 2003.

Jay lived in Dresden and attended Jefferson High School until 1964 when he and the family left Martin's Dairy and moved to Finneytown, a Cincinnati, Ohio suburb. Jay first married Karen Atkins in August of 1974 and worked at Sterling Process Engineering and Services, Inc. and later, Worthington Cylinders, and then, Lowe's. Jay later divorced and married Connie Stooksbury on June 21, 1991. After the second marriage ended in divorce, Jay moved to Trinway, Ohio until December 24, 2008 when he was in an auto accident en route to visit family in Westerville, Ohio. Jay was seriously injured and after being hospitalized, spent the rest of his days in nursing homes, first, Greystone in Columbus and later Edgewood Manor in Westerville.

In addition to his father, Jay is survived by a daughter Amy (Lowell Maxwell) of Delaware, Ohio, a brother Jerry (Linda) Martin of Galena, Ohio, a sister Trudi (Lynn) Buchman of Winnabow, North Carolina, a brother Steve (Karen) Martin of Gahanna, Ohio and seven nieces and nephews who loved him.

Jay was very big-hearted and will be remembered as a friendly, happy and cooperative guy despite his challenges. He will be sadly missed by his family.

Calling hours will be 4pm to 7pm Monday, August 6, 2018 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at the funeral home with Pastor Richard Purvis officiating. Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery.
