Obituary

Janet (Baumgartner) Nagy lived a full, rich life of 79 years; including 62 years of marriage with Monte Lynn Nagy, Sr. who survives.

She claimed her victory in resurrection with Jesus Saturday, November 13, 2021. Janet was born June 21, 1942 in Newark, OH; the youngest daughter of Joseph and Esther (Inlow) Baumgartner.

A graduate of Newark High School and COTC, Janet's career started as a baby sitter in her early teen years progressing to multiple other positions where she learned the importance of commitment, caring, and listening to others. Her work at The Granville Inn as well as working for Cecil Shoemaker at the Fallsburg General store and Fallsburg restaurant, and The Buxton Inn helped sharpen her skills in customer relationships in a small community setting. Her work career culminated with 17 years as an executive secretary at LMH.

She was active in community service through Perryton Church of Christ, Licking Valley Church of Christ and community organizations such as Boy Scouts of America, Midland Theatre, and voting precinct judge for MaryAnn Township

Janet remained active in her retirement years participating in Silver Sneakers and walking several of the trails created in the Newark area. Her volunteer work kept her very busy and connected to the local community.

She enjoyed the OHIO sports teams (Reds baseball, and Buckeye football and basketball) and playing church league softball. She also enjoyed traveling and exploring many places with family. Photo albums are filled with pictures of family visits and trips with her siblings (Skip, Linda, and their spouses) to many places including Hawaii, Las Vegas, Dollywood, Branson MO, Gatlinburg, TN, Lake Havasu City, AZ, and many national parks and monuments, especially Mammoth Cave, KY.

Janet leaves behind beloved husband Monte Sr.; three sons, Monte Jr. (Claudia), Andy (Cheryl), and Matthew (Amy); six grandchildren, Rachel Toon (Derek), Alexander, Andrew, Josh (Taylor), Brooke and Callie (Amy); and her sister, Linda (Kenneth) Rhodes.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by six siblings.

Many friends and family enriched Janet's life. Special thanks to Marcia Greene for her support and care during the later stages of the struggle as well as nephew David and Patty Baumgartner for being frequent home support. Many calls from her long-time allies were well received as they kept her spirits up.

The Nagy family would also like to acknowledge the oncology and medical teams that provided top-rate professional care with warmth and empathy during Janet's challenges over the last 5 months. Doctors D'Anna Mullins, Garth Bennington and their staffs as well as Hospice of Central Ohio provided excellent care and diagnosis with empathy and respect; preserving Janet's personal dignity at all times. Licking Memorial Hospital staff as well as the Oncology Department at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center also deserve acknowledgement for their efforts.

Friends and family may call 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at VENSIL & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME – NEWARK CHAPEL, 1850 W. Main St., Newark.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Gus Andrews officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
