James H. Smith, 68, of Norfield Road, died at 10:20PM Tuesday November 8, 2005 at his home following a 16 month battle with cancer. Mr. Smith was born January 2, 1937 in Zanesville, a son of the late Cecil and Lavera (Dalton) Smith. He had been a chef at the Old Market House Inn and had been a baker at the Longaberger Homestead. Mr. Smith was a member of the Salem U. Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Helen L. (Hittle) Smith, whom he married June 17, 1967; sons, Rick Smith, Perry Smith, James (Amy) Smith, Jimmy (Jannett) Strickler all of Zanesville; daughters, Jamie (Tim) Mathie of Newark, Rhonda (Doug) West of Zanesville, Pam Clark of Zanesville, brothers, Sheldon Smith and Ronald Smith both of Zanesville; sister, Dorla Brown of Zanesville; grandchildren, Deidra & Shiloh West, Brittany Smith, Kaila Smith, Madison & Faith Dressler, Ashley Balliett, Eric & Wesley Clark, Jerrod & Jenna Strickler, Erin, Charlie, LaTawnya Brown, Cayla & Chase Mathie, Perry Smith II & LaToshia Smith, Jason McNutt, several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Charlee Husk. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Smith, grandchildren, Joshua West, Jezemiah Smith, brothers, William, Arthur and Raymond Smith, sisters, Sandra Smith and Leota Morgan. Friends may call 2-4 & 7-9PM Friday November 11, 2005 at the Adamsville Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, where services will be held at 11AM Saturday with Pastor Tom Snyder officiating.
