James W. Michael, 82, of Frazeysburg, Ohio died Thursday evening, September 1, 2011 at Select Specialty Hospital, Zanesville, Ohio.
Born September 27, 1928 in Obetz, Ohio he was the son of the late Seward and Melva (Carpenter) Michael and was a 1946 graduate of Frazeysburg High School. After high school Mr. Michael join the U. S. Navy and upon completion of his service with the Navy he joined the Ohio National Guard where he retired in 1983 with 38 years of service. At the time of his retirement Mr. Michael was Supply Officer for the State of Ohio with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was especially proud of his grandson, Lucas Michael who joined the U. S. Navy last year. He was a 50 year member of Frazeysburg Lodge #490, F. & A. M. and the Veterans of the Ohio National Guard. He enjoyed golfing and attending his grandchildren's sporting activities.
Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Mildred E. (Lugar) Michael whom he married May 25, 1951; two sons, David (Margie) Michael of Heath, Ohio and Gary (Camie) Michael of Frazeysburg; two daughters, Debra (Tim) Miller of Frazeysburg and Nancy (Jim) Martin of Dresden; ten grandchildren, Nicole, Nathan, Lindsay, Lauren, Lucas, Matthew, Jared, Kara, Kodie and Kristofer; three great grandchildren, Adrienne, Brynn and Cyson; and one brother, Donald (Vivian) Michael of Frazeysburg.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street. Frazeysburg Lodge #490 will conduct Masonic services at 8pm Tuesday.
Private graveside funeral services will be conducted at a later date at Frazeysburg Cemetery.
