James C. "Charlie" Holbrook, 90, of Newark, Ohio peacefully passed away at his home on Friday, May 27, 2022. Sunrise, July 28, 1931 – Sunset May 27, 2022
Born July 28, 1931 in Sandyhook, Kentucky he was a son of the late James William and Dazel (Greene) Holbrook. Jim launched his career carrying mail on a horse in Kentucky. He went on to work for the railroad as a truck driver. Later he was called into the ministry at Redeemer Church in Columbus, Ohio. In 1968 he established Calvary Christian Church in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Jim had a conviction to meet the whole needs of the membership, and this conviction led him to Frazeysburg, Ohio where "doors opened" and he was able to start several businesses that blessed, not only the flock, but the community as well. Jim had a great love for God and his family, and he enjoyed farming and traveling. He was a very loving son, brother, husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa and great great grandpa.
Surviving is his loving wife Marianne (Silliman) Holbrook whom he married February 28, 1976; two sons, Ronald D. Holbrook of Dresden, Ohio and Richard G. Holbrook of Franklin, North Carolina; two daughters, Cheree (Craig) Lybarger of Newark and Cathi (Stefon Brewster) Fletcher of Cardington, Ohio; five sisters, Glenna May Dean, Inabelle Brockwell, Opal Skagg, Donna Sue Addington and Karen Stevens; and three brothers, Jack, Joe and Tallmage Holbrook. Jim was also blessed with twelve grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild and hundreds of cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Gregory P. Holbrook, a grandson, Mathew Holbrook, a brother, J. B. Manning and a sister Wanda Johnson.
Calling hours will be 5pm to 8pm Friday, June 3, 2022 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.
Funeral services will be 10:00am Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Meadow View Church of Christ, 6750 Raiders Road, Frazeysburg, Ohio with Ministers Woodie Fultz, Aaron Wahl and Sam Dunn officiating. Jim will be laid to rest in Frazeysburg Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio.
