James Dean "Jimmy" Smith, 52, of Newark, Ohio died Saturday morning, October 29, 2011 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born August 18, 1959 in Zanesville, Ohio he is the son of Carl Dean and Verna L. (Sidle) Smith of Newark and was a 1978 graduate of Licking Valley High School. Mr. Smith worked in the building construction business for many years. He enjoyed NASCAR, watching the Cleveland Browns and the Michigan Wolverines, but his greatest enjoyment was watching his son race stock cars and helping him in his garage.
Surviving in addition to his parents is his son, James Dean "Jimmy" (Ashley Lamb) Smith, Jr. of Nashport, Ohio; a grandson, Cole Dean Smith; a sister, Cheryl (Albert) May of Newark; his former wife, Gail Carver and her son Kevin Carver, Jr.; several nieces and nephews and his faithful and lifelong friends, Pat Linn of Newark and Mike Dunlap of Nashport.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Bill Jones officiating. Burial will be in Hanover Cemetery.
