NEWARK - A funeral service for James R. ?Pork Chop? Brooks, Sr. will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2009 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Dave Mason officiating. Burial will be in Newark Memorial Gardens. Mr. Brooks died Thursday, July 9, 2009 at his residence. He was born November 3, 1945 to the late Glen E. and Velma B. (Babbs) Brooks. Mr. Brooks is a retired truck driver for Kokosing Construction and formerly with Newark Asphalt. He was a member of the Newark Eagles # 387, Newark Moose Lodge, and has held several positions in the Babe Ruth Organization. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren?s sporting events. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia D. (Rhinehart) Brooks, whom he married May 30, 1967; mother, Cleo Brooks of Morine, Ohio; children, Jerry (Mary) Wiley of Hueytown, Alabama, James (Donna) Brooks of Granville, Danny (Krista) Brooks of Heath, Donna (Mike) Saalfield of Heath, Janie Brooks & Tracy Campbell of Newark; grandchildren, Brittany Waddell, Trisha Waddell, Robbie Waddell, Jenna Brooks, Stephanie Brooks, Tabitha & Adam Gravitt, Justin Wiley, Taylor Brooks, Kole Brooks, Trevor Price; sisters, Wanda Lewis of Trenton, Cyndie Brooks of Kettering; brothers, Larry (Sandy) Brooks of New Port Richey, Florida, Tom (Carolyn) Pelphrey of Fairborn; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Karen Laycox, brothers, Jerry Brooks and Gene Brooks. Calling hours will be observed 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark.
