James Joseph Blatt, 81, of Zanesville, Ohio died Wednesday evening, January 8, 2014 at Willow Haven Nursing Home in Zanesville.
Born September 7, 1932 in Dresden, Ohio he was a son of the late Joseph Edward and Catherine M. (Lacy) Blatt and was a 1950 graduate of Dresden Jefferson High School. Mr. Blatt also graduated from Ohio University Zanesville with an associates degree in industrial engineering. He retired from Armco Steel Corporation of Zanesville after many years of service as an industrial engineer. James was a member of the Eagles and was a member of several bowling leagues and card clubs over the years. He was very active in athletics during his high schools years and he enjoyed attending the sports activities of his children and grandchildren. He love Florida and each year he and his wife would travel to Daytona Beach for their anniversary.
Surviving are two sons, Mike Blatt and Mark (Tanya) Blatt both of Zanesville; two daughters, Kathie (Tom) Dannemann of Zanesville and Kristie Blatt of Orlando, Florida; three grandchildren, Taylor, McKenna and Austin Blatt; a step-sister, Virginia Garver of Dresden and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ellen (Wilcox) Blatt whom he married October 20, 1951 and who died January 4, 2004 and a sister Joan Blatt Freshwater.
Calling hours will be 4pm to 7pm Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.
Memorial funeral services will be 11:00am Monday, January 20, 2014 at the funeral home with the Rev. Greg Inboden officiating.
