Obituary

James Renrick Ardrey went home to be with the rest of his family on November 10, 2018 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio.

Born April 6, 1939 in Hopewell Township of Muskingum County he was a son of the late Roy C. Ardrey and Frances Ruth Johnson Ardrey and was a graduate of the "Class of '57" from Frazeysburg High School.

Jim worked throughout his life hauling milk for Borden's; as an oil pumper for Hoosier and Oxford Oil Companies and driving truck for B&L Motor Freight and Buckeye Pipeline.  Jim and his brother, Myron, opened Ardrey Plumbing & Heating in Frazeysburg.  He dug basements, water and gas lines, and septic systems until his retirement. He assisted the Village of Frazeysburg in the water and sewer plant for many years.  After retirement, he worked several years at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds.

He was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and an Elder.   He grew up in the Nashport Methodist Church where he helped lead the youth group and sang in the choir.   He was a member of the Forest Avenue Presbyterian Church and sat on Session during the merger for the Trinity United Presbyterian Church.   A member of Irville Masonic Lodge #184 for over 50 years, he served twice as Master and helped with the pancake breakfasts.  Jim, also, belonged to the Dresden Steam and Gas Club. As a former member of the Frazeysburg Volunteer Fire Department, he helped with the organization of Falls Township Fire Department.

He loved being with his family and friends. He enjoyed working with his hands, restoring antique tractors with his son and others.  He enjoyed camping, especially, driving his Dodge Ram or motorhome to the destination, digging in the dirt with a backhoe, and mowing his yard.

Surviving is his wife Hinda (Lauer) Ardrey whom he married June, 27, 1965, his daughter Jennifer Ardrey, his son Devin (Lucinda) Ardrey, and his grandchildren, Caroline and Grant Ardrey.  Also, surviving is his sister-in-law, Anna Ardrey, brother-in-law Leon (Ebba) Lauer, nephews Doug Ardrey, Daniel (Julie) Ardrey, Mark (Cheryl ) Taylor, Ian Lauer, Kiel Lauer, and nieces Cindy Evans, Elizabeth (Joe) Green, Molly Taylor, and Nancy (Jerry) Taylor, several great- nieces and nephews, and his special friend, Kathy Larson.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Myron Ardrey and his sisters, Mary Ann Casey and Betty Jane Taylor and brothers-in-law, Donald Casey and Albert (Gene) Taylor.

"Saint James" was a survivor of throat cancer and several other surgeries. He kept a positive attitude throughout his many "medical adventures".  For those, The family thanks and appreciates all the knowledge, treatment, and care that he received from Dr. Doug Myers, Carol Derwacter, CAPN, Drs. Jack Booth, Tom Rojewski, Duane Pool, Jan Elston, David Schuller, Theodore Teknos, and the physicians and staff of Genesis Health Care Systems and Respiratory Rehab Therapy Department, OSU and The James Cancer Hospital, Select Hospital, and Cedar Hill Care facility, and Dakota Matz; also, a special thanks to the staff of The Genesis Surgery Center for all its prayers and understanding during St. James's illnesses.
