Obituary

Jacqueline Patricia Ann Nethers, 89, of Toboso, Ohio died Tuesday night, July 23, 2024 at Licking Memorial Health System's Hospice of Central Ohio in Newark.

Born May 4, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Sherl L. and Beatrice B. (Powell) Smith and a 1953 graduate of Jacksontown High School.  Jacqueline was a long-time member of the Toboso United Methodist Church and a former member of the Hanover Eastern Star.  She served as usher at the Midland Theatre, nearly reaching 1,000 hours of service.

In 1957, Jacqueline, and her husband, Melvin, used a tractor and hay wagon to move from Newark to the family farm outside of Toboso.  She continued to live there for the rest of her life and was honored to be Grand Marshal of the Hanover Parade in 2022.  Though she never moved again, that didn't stop her from traveling.  Jacqueline traveled to 20 foreign countries ("21 if you count Canada" she would say).  One of her favorite places to visit was Greece, she always wanted to visit again.  What Jacqueline loved the most was her family, especially being "Super Granny" to her great grandchildren.

Surviving are her five children, Marsha L. (Denny Acord) Short of Newark, Matthew L. (Janet) Nethers of Toboso, Mark L. (Christine) Nethers of Ypsilanti, MI, Mary Lou (Bryan Smith) Nethers of Toboso, and "Casey" Merl L. (Julie) Nethers of Delaware, OH; fourteen grandchildren, Jeff (Stacy) Spring, Jacqueline (Taylor) Archer, Alicia (Brandon) Unger, Brian (Karen) Nethers, Marshall (Daniel Gotthardt) Nethers, Morgan (Branden) McDaniel, Courtney (Scott) Branscome, Matthew (Amanda) Orenchuk, Steven Nethers, Christopher (Katy) Orenchuk, Justin (Jessica) Nethers, Dan (Sarah) Nethers, Ryan Nethers, and Scott Nethers; thirteen great grandchildren; sister, Bev King, of Newark; brother in-law Doug (Brenda Atwood) Nethers of Toboso; bonus sons and family friends, Mike Hatfield and Bryan (Shelia) Lewis and their children, Levi, Lainey, and Ethan Lewis and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Melvin L. Nethers whom she married May 26, 1956 and who died November 30, 1999; sister, Janet Bero; brothers, Evan Smith, Howard (Pat) Smith, Jim Smith, and Merle Smith; brother and sister in-law, Terry (Sue) Nethers; sister in-law, Karen Nethers and her feline friend, Buddy who was her faithful companion for 16 years.

Friends and family may call from 2pm to 6pm Sunday, July 28, 2024 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil and Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.

Funeral Services will be 11:00am Monday, July 29, 2024 at the funeral home with Mr. Casey Williams officiating.  Jacqueline will be laid to rest next to her husband, Melvin, in Hanover Cemetery.
