Jackie E. Birkhimer, Sr., 77, of Dresden, Ohio died Wednesday morning, December 27, 2017 at his home. His loving family was at his side.
Born August 20, 1940 in Dresden he was a son of the late Frank E. and Minnie Garnet (Layton) Birkhimer. Jack retired in 2000 from the Dresden Police Department after 18 years of service to the village. He also worked for Gene Cox & Sons for 28 years and 8 years with the Shelly Company. He was a member of the Labor Union Local 530. Jack was recently baptized and attended Meadow View Church of Christ in Frazeysburg. He loved the outdoors and being with his sons and grandchildren, whether it was working on cars, cutting wood or any other project.
Surviving is his loving wife of 55 years, Vicki J. (Vaughn) Birkhimer whom he married March 24, 1962; four sons, Jackie E. (Debbie) Jr. of New Moscow, Ohio, Jeffrey A. (Rhonda) Birkhimer of Dresden, Scott T. (Shawna) Birkhimer of Hanover, Ohio and Jason "Jake" (Alison Ankrom) Birkhimer of Nashport, Ohio; eleven grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren and his "very best friend", his dog "Bugga". Also surviving are three brothers, Bill (Linda) Birkhimer of Zanesville, Ohio, Larry (Teresa) Birkhimer and Danny (Lori) Birkhimer, both of Dresden; four sisters, Norma Headley of Zanesville, Wanda McGee and Carol (Hazen) Barr, both of Dresden and Kathy (Jack) Holdsworth of Hanover and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Birkhimer, Jr., Fred Birkhimer and Randy Birkhimer.
Calling hour will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the funeral home with Minister Sam Dunn officiating. Burial will be in Dresden Cemetery.
