Obituary

Jack R. Newcome, 85, of Dresden, Ohio died Saturday evening, October 20, 2012 at Autumn Health Care Center in Coshocton, Ohio.
Born March 20, 1927 in Trinway, Ohio he was a son of the late Merrell and Nellie (Bumpus) Newcome and was a 1945 graduate of Dresden Jefferson High School. Mr. Newcome was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Navy. He was a retired self-employed building contractor retiring in 1992. He was a member of Muskingum Presbyterian Church and was a very active in American Legion Post #399 of Dresden. Jack operated the food stand at all of the Legion's activities for many years and he was a very instrumental part of the building of the old Dresden Swimming Pool located on the Legion's property. He was also a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Dresden and Eagles of Coshocton.
Surviving is his wife, Edna (Tyner) Newcome whom he married July 14, 2002; one son, Dan (Annette) Newcome of Nashport, Ohio; four daughters, Lois (Kenneth) Norris of Zanesville, Ohio, Merrill (Tom) Rounds of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jodie (Mark) Pape of Dresden and Lucy (Michael) Stephan of Charlotte, North Carolina; two step sons, Tim (Janet) Archer of Laurelville, Ohio and Randy (Robin) Archer of Hanover, Ohio; two step daughters, Annette (Arnie) Schlater of Adamsville, Ohio and Cathy Lahr of Huntington, Indiana; thirteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; thirteen step grandchildren; seventeen step great grandchildren; one sister, Larcena Lacy of Frazeysburg, Ohio; several nieces and nephews and the mother of his children, Mary Barton of Dresden.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his previous wife, Ruth (Cody ) Newcome and two brothers, Donald Newcome and Harold Newcome.
Calling hours will be from 1pm to 3pm Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.
Memorial services will be at 3pm Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. James A. Schumacher officiating. Following the services military honors will be presented by American Legion Post #399.
