DRESDEN ? There is an emptiness in the hearts of the family and friends of Ivan Stokes, Jr. On Friday, December 15, 2006 our beloved friend departed the land of the dying for the land of the living. Born November 26, 1924 in Frazeysburg, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ivan C. and Eva (Smith) Stokes and was a 1943 graduate of Frazeysburg High School. During World War II he served in the Army Infantry where he received a Purple Heart, a Good Conduct Medal and three Bronze Stars. Mr. Stokes was a member of the Trinway United Methodist Church and served on the church board of trustees. He was also a member of the Wakatomika Post #6193, VFW in Frazeysburg; a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans; the Moose Lodge #935 of Coshocton and the Coshocton County Farm Bureau. Ivan was also an avid supporter of Tri-Valley athletic teams. In addition, because of his loyalty and commitment to his family heritage, he hosted the annual ?Stoketoberfest? which leaves a legacy that spans five generations. Surviving is his wife, Audrey J. (Severns) Stokes, whom he married December 28, 1947; two sons, Dr. William James (Suzy) Stokes of Hebron, Ohio and Timothy Dean (Jeanie) Stokes of Coshocton, Ohio; one daughter, Cathy (Dr. Larry) Hinkle of Louisville, Ohio; six grandchildren, Kelly Stone, Stanley Stokes, Brent Stokes, Abby Waid, Juliana and Lacie Hinkle; four step-grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Rev. Don (Christine) Stokes of Monroeville, PA and Bob (Joyce) Stokes of Ashland, Ohio; two sisters, Jean Oravis of Dresden and Joanne (Carroll) Bumpus of Frazeysburg; several nieces and nephews and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Ivan Stokes, who died in 1989; one brother, Kenneth M. Stokes; three sisters, Janis Riley; Kathryn Frazier and Betty Leas; and one great grandchild. Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 9pm Monday, December 18, 2006 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11:00am Tuesday, December 19, 2006 with Rev. Sharon Williamson and Dr. Larry Hinkle officiating. Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the ?AS IS Stokes Scholarship Fund?, which will benefit future Tri-Valley High School graduates. Donations may be made to any local Huntington Bank.
