Funeral services for Iris J. Crist, 89 of Brownsville will be held Friday July 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brownsville United Methodist Church, 15605 Main Street SE Brownsville, Ohio with Pastor Thomas Uppole officiating. Burial will be in Zion Ridge Cemetery, Thornville, Ohio.
Mrs. Crist died Monday, July 26, 2010 at the L.P.N. Health Care Facility. She was born June 22, 1921 in Thornville, (Bruno) Ohio to the late Ira and Rachel (VanDyke) Cooperrider.
Mrs. Crist retired in 1984 from ITS. She was formerly employed by Rileyâ??s Bakery, Sears and Bethesda Hospital. She was a member of the Brownsville United Methodist Church for over 51 years. She was a former member of the Bruno Grange and Perry County Promona Grange. She enjoyed quilting and gardening, especially caring for her flowers.
Survivors include her son, Charles (Patti) Crist of Hebron, Kentucky; daughters, Elizabeth â??Libbyâ? J. Gutridge of Newark, Dixie C. Brown of Newark; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George A. â??Peteâ? Crist whom she married on July 13, 1940 at the Thornville United Methodist Church and died on April 27, 1999; daughter, Kathryn â??Kitsyâ? Crist died in 2000; sisters, Jane Mohler, Carrie Blackstone and brother, Carol Cooperrider.
Calling hours will be observed Thursday July 29, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home 1850 W. Main Street, Newark and one hour before services on Friday at the church.
