Irene S. Riley, 91, of Dresden, Ohio, formerly of Frazeysburg, Ohio died Sunday morning, February 8, 2015 at Beckett House in New Concord, Ohio.
Born September 6, 1923 in Warsaw, Ohio she was the daughter of the late E. Russell and Nellie (Sheldon) Shrimplin and was a 1941 graduate of Dresden Jefferson High School. During World War II Irene worked for the War Department in Dayton, Ohio, Oakland, California and Washington, DC. Later she helped her husband manage their farm at Frazeysburg. She was a member of the Frazeysburg Presbyterian Church.
Surviving is her loving husband of nearly 72 years, Eugene J. Riley whom she married March 8, 1943; two sons, Steve Riley of Columbus, Indiana and Tim (Maureen) Riley of Ann Arbor, Michigan; four grandchildren, Tracy McKeown, Betsy Behm, John Riley and Brenna Riley; six great grandchildren; a brother, Frank Shrimplin of Franklin, North Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Clarence, Charles, Harley, Russell, Clyde, Gerald and James Shrimplin.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the excellent staff a Primrose Retirement Community of Zanesville and Beckett House of New Concord for the care and comfort they provided Mother.
Calling hours will be 3pm to 7pm Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Thursday, February 12, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery.
