HEATH: A funeral service for Homer N. Ogle, 83 of Heath will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 5, 2010 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Smith and Pastor Charlie Smith officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
Mr. Ogle died suddenly Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born June 18, 1926 in Coshocton, Ohio to the late Bert L. and Blanche Ferne (Grace) Ogle.
Mr. Ogle retired in 1982 from Kaiser Aluminum with 32 years of service. He held several positions with the majority of time spent as Maintenance Superintendent and Wire Drawing Superintendent. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of White Chapel Methodist Church and Hebron United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a 56 year member of Acme Lodge # 554 F & AM, member for 23 years of Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Shrine, past president and member of Harbor Hills Country Club, past member of Buckeye Lake Yacht Club, member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. He was a past member and had served on the board of directors for the Licking County American Red Cross, United Appeal, American Heart Association, Licking County YMCA, and Family Service Organization. He served as the Licking County Chairman for John F. Kennedyâ??s presidential campaign. Homer loved his family and he loved the â??Buckeyes,â? especially that he had 8 family members who graduated from The Ohio State University. He enjoyed the game of golf and in teaching his children and grandchildren. Homer loved gardening and was always ready to help his wife with her many new adventures.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years Ann (Dixon) Ogle whom he married September 11, 1976; children, Cindy (Fred) Houdeshell of Frederick, MD., Beth (Gene) Raab of Thornville, Sherri (Jim) Hurley of Murfreesboro,TN., Rev. Steve (Debi) Ogle of Lewis Center, Mike (Desiree) Stalnaker of Lascassas, TN., daughter-in-law, Joanne Ogle of Newark; grandchildren, Aaron Ogle, Aprille (Scott) Barrett, Shana (Billie Dantzler), Jill (Warren) Gorman, Danielle Keckley, Tyler Keckley, Hannah Grace Stalnaker, Rylee Jane Stalnaker; five great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Rev. Bruce Ogle; daughter, Dawn LeAnna Ogle; sisters, Mary Adams, Jeanette Longstreth; brothers, Leroy Ogle, Cecil Ogle and Otis Ogle.
A special thanks to Dr. Richard Walters, who was his long time family doctor and dear friend, and the wonderful Dr. HinstaTewolde. Also, special thanks to all the staff â??our second familyâ? at DaVita Dialysis for such loving care.
Calling hours will be observed from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m.
