Helen R. Prouty, 93, of Dresden, died at 2:51AM Monday January 24, 2005 at Cedar Hill Care Center following a two month illness. Mrs. Prouty was born February 20, 1911 at Pleasant Hill, a daughter of the late Howard and Clara (Layton) Snack. She had lived most of her life near Dresden, was a homemaker and until her health prevented, she enjoyed reading her Bible, writing poetry, and making patchwork quilts. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dresden. Surviving are her children, Vernon (Dorothy) Prouty of Nashport, Victor (Linda) Prouty of Dresden, Max (Joyce) Prouty of Baltimore, Loren (Loretta) Prouty of Nashport, Marion ?Junior? (Phyllis) Prouty, Shirley (Francis) Holzschuher, Larry (Ellen) Prouty, Bonnie Whyde all of Dresden, 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion R. Prouty, who died April 10, 1956, two brothers, Miles and Jesse Snack, six sisters, Bessie Fortune, Ida Wohlheter, Blanche Patterson, Minnie Almack, Nellie Bryant and Tina Snack; one grandson, Randy Prouty and one great grandson. Friends may call 2-4 & 7-9PM Tuesday January 25, 2005 at the Dresden Chapel Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1PM with Pastor Andy Dennis officiating. Burial will follow in Dresden Cemetery.
