Obituary

Hazel R. McDonald, 100, of Zanesville, died at 6:30AM Monday July 25, 2005 at the Muskingum County Home where she had been a resident three years. Miss McDonald was born November 13, 1904 near Dresden, a daughter of the late Hugh and Elsie (Brill) McDonald. A 1922 graduate of Zanesville High School, and a 1926 graduate of Ohio University, Miss McDonald was a math major and taught school in Leesburg for two years following graduation. She then moved to Cleveland and worked as a social worker for Cuyahoga County and took postgraduate courses at Western-Reserve University. After a change in the political landscape, she worked for the American Red Cross in Cleveland and was sent for 2? years as a field director for the ARC in Germany following WWII. Following that assignment, she was the director of the ARC office in Seattle, WA. Moving to Oak Park, IL, she worked as a school counselor and then retired to San Diego, CA, returning to Zanesville in 1993. She is survived by her brother, Kenneth McDonald of Dresden; two nephews, James (Rebecca) McDonald of San Diego, John (Mamie) McDonald of Illinois and was preceded in death by two brothers, Carlos and Harold McDonald. A graveside funeral service will be held at 1PM Thursday July 28, 2005 at the Muskingum Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Ray Morrison officiating.
