Funeral services for Hazel M. Carpenter, 78 of Granville will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2010 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home. Burial will be in Newark Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Carpenter died Sunday, July 4, 2010 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. She was born February 12, 1932 in Granville to the late Roy and Villa (Evans) Davis.

In the late 60â??s and early 70â??s she was a housekeeper at the Granville Inn. While employed by Superior Cleaning Services she worked at the Owens-Corning Technical Center, Communicolor / R.R. Donnelly. Recently she was employed with Newark Optometry. She was a member of the Buckeye Lake Ladies Auxiliary # 2801. She frequented yard sales and flea markets. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in sporting events and activities. She enjoyed people and never knew a stranger.

She is survived by her children, Sue (Larry) Altman of Newark, Danny (Lynne) Carpenter of Buckeye Lake, Roger (Valerie) Carpenter of Granville, Linda Carpenter of Granville; grandchildren, Stephanie (Donis) Toler, Amy (Eric) Hill, Andria (Brandon) Haynes, Andy Carpenter, Aaron Carpenter, Jessica Carpenter, Austyn Carpenter; five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Carpenter in November 1984; four sisters, Margaret Austin, Ruth Esterline, Ethel Collins, Dorothy Warth and brother, John Davis.

Calling hours will be observed Thursday, July 8, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark.
