Funeral services for Frances (Higgs) Wheeler, 96 of Toano, VA., will be held Monday June 27, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. at the Mt. Vernon Methodist Church, 7801 Church Lane, Toano, VA. with Pastor David E Craig officiating. Burial will take place in the James City Chapel Cemetery in Norge, VA.Mrs. Wheeler slipped peacefully from this world to be with her Lord on Friday June 24, 2005 at the home of her granddaughter, Mary Kishler in Heath, Ohio. She was born January 20, 1909 in Warwick County, VA. to the late Thomas Franklin ?Frank? and Lillie Florence (Meadows) Higgs.Mrs. Wheeler was a resident her entire life of the Williamsburg/Toano area. She moved to Toano in 1919 and played basketball and attended Toano High School. She was the longest living member of the Mt. Vernon Methodist Church.Known to her family as ?Little Nanny? she was most proud of her family. Survivors include her daughter Mary (George) Forster of Newark, OH.; son-in-law, James Dunn, III of Williamsburg, VA.; sister, Carrie Sweeney of Toano, VA.; brother, Creasy, Higgs of Toano, VA.; nine grandchildren, James (Judy) Cole of Dumfries, VA., Mary (Jim) Kishler of Heath, OH., Kelly (Paula) Cole of Stafford, VA., Tom (Deborah Baker) Cole of Santa Fe, NM., Scott (Sheree) Cole of Zanesvillle, OH., Mike Dunn of Hartville, OH., Chris Dunn of Ft. Bragg, NC., Kelly Ann (Bill) Lemon of Logan, OH., Nick (Michelle) Maniskas, III of Logan, OH.; twelve great-grandchildren, Brian, Brady, Robbie and Clinton Cole, Heather Frances (Frank) Groves, Anna McNelly, Emily and David Dunn, Lillian Flowers, Nick Maniskas, IV, Madison and Abigail Frances Maniskas; four great-great grandchildren, Brittany, Noah, Hunter and Shylah Groves.In addition to her parents, her husband of 48 years, Oscar Wheeler, whom she married August 21, 1927 preceded her in death in 1975. A daughter, Myrtle Maniskas, is deceased. Four brothers, Russell, Randal, Tommy, Johnny Higgs and sister, Bertha Cowan also preceded her in death.The family requests memorial contributions may be made to your local hospice organization.
