Obituary

A funeral service for Harold O. Strider, 82 of Newark and formerly Hebron will be held Saturday September 22, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Homes with Pastor Paul Hansen officiating. Burial will be in Glen Rest Cemetery. Mr. Strider died Tuesday September 18, 2007 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born November 14, 1924 in Johnstown to the late Frank and Ivadell (Conway) Strider. Mr. Strider retired after 50 years in 1988 with Strait and Lamp Lumber Co. as a cabinetmaker. Mr. Strider served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of St. John?s Lutheran Church and a former church council member. A long time Hebron resident, he was a former member of the Hebron Lion?s Club and had served as a village council member. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing and golfing. He had won several Class C Championship Horseshoe Pitching tournaments. He had been a member of several bowling leagues. Euchre was a favorite pastime and he loved to travel. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Seymour Strider, whom he married May 21, 1988; daughters, Linda (Don) Morris of Englewood, FL., Brenda (Norm) Kutan of Newark; step-sons, Scott (Beth) Seymour of Columbus, David Seymour of Newark; sisters, Evelyn Johnson of Lancaster, Ruth (Eldon) Sowers of Columbus, Doris Strider of Columbus, Flora (Jim) Davis of Lehigh Acres, FL.; brother in law, Patrick Handley of Sidney, Australia; granddaughter, Kelli Morris of Columbus; great granddaughter, Mia Zofkie of Columbus ; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Emogene Strider on October 6, 1986 and a sister, Hilda Jean Baughman. Calling hours will be observed Friday September 21, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home 1850 West Main Street. Memorial contributions may be made to the Devita Dialysis Center or Hospice of Central Ohio. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
