Obituary

Funeral services for Grover C. Hanger, 97 of Hanover will be held Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in the Hanover Presbyterian Church, 732 N. Main Street, Newark with Rev. Heather Thum-Gerber officiating. Burial will follow in Hanover Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Mr. Hanger died Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at the Sharon Brooke Assisted Living. He was born February 8, 1926 in Little Hocking, OH to Richard F. and Emma (Reip) Hanger.

Grover retired as a supervisor at Owens-Corning Fiberglas with 23 years of service in 1986. He was a long-time active member of the Hanover Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Hanover American Legion Post # 764. He served in the Pacific Theatre with the U.S. Navy during WWII. His favorite activities included wood working and fishing.

Survivors include his sons, Richard Hanger, Jeffrey Hanger, Neal (Tammy) Hanger all of Newark; grandchildren, Cory (Christina) Hanger of Heath, Casey Hanger of CT; Nici (Nick) Moore of Hilliard, J.R. Hanger of Newark; great-grandchildren, Michaela Hanger, Riley Hanger, Alyssa Hanger, Niko Moore; daughter-in-law, Nancy Hanger of Granville; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death, by his wife of 63 years, Margie in 2010; siblings, Laverne Harstine, Willie Hanger and Richard Hanger; daughter-in-law, Karen Hanger.

Visitation will be observed on Monday August 28, 2023 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street.
