A funeral service for Gloria R Alvis, 99 of Newark will be held Monday December 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street with Pastor Tim Carr and Rev.  Rick Alvis officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Alvis died Friday December 13, 2024 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. She was born October 26, 1925 in Lancaster to Charles T. and Clara Elizabeth (Frasure) Harden.

Gloria was employed as a librarian at the Newark Public Library. She later worked in the language lab at Denison University, and for many years assisted her daughter and son-in-law with auctions at the Clum Auction Barn. She was a member of the Northside Baptist Church. She enjoyed being a homemaker, crocheting, having people visit and delighted in the name "Cookie Lady."

She is survived by her sons, Michael (Linda) Alvis of Thornville, Richard (Julie) Alvis of Greenwood, IN; son-in-law, Mike Clum (Sharon) of Rushville; grandchildren, Laura (Larry) Watson, John (Jodi) Clum, Michelle (Bryan Reber) Wright, Barton (Jennifer) Alvis, Bethany (David) Wininger, Nathan (Joy)  Alvis, Kyle (Kristen) Alvis; great-grandchildren, Courtney Clum, Bryan Watson, Chase Watson, Emma Clum, Ava Clum, Mackenzie (Jerrod) Abel, Logan (Emily) Talbot, Brade Wright, Langdon Johnson, Breanna Reber, Delaney Alvis, Jack Alvis, Richard Alvis, Emilia Alvis, Isabelle Gloria Alvis, Luna Alvis, Everly Alvis; great-great-grandchildren, Niles Abel, Nyla Abel, Oakley Talbot, and Connor Talbot.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Jack Alvis; daughter, Katharine Clum; sister, Evelyn Wharton.

Visitation will be observed Sunday December 22nd from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home.
