A funeral service for Gladys E. Morrison, 85 of Newark will be held Tuesday October 9, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Homes with Pastor Carol Hall officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Morrison died Thursday October 4, 2007 at the Newark Healthcare Centre. She was born November 20, 1921 in Kirkersville to the late Byron and Catherine (Hudnall) Roley. Mrs. Morrison and her family moved to Franklin Twp. on May 19, 1929. She spent the rest of her days in that vicinity. She graduated Newark High School in 1939. She was active in 4-H as a child and served as a club advisor for 25 years. She was an avid golfer. She was active in the Hanover Chapter 220 OES, having served as Worthy Matron and in all the star points. She also served as Ohio Grand Worthy Matron. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Union Church. She was involved as a Sunday School Teacher, pianist, served in the Ladies Aide and Garden Club. She was a member of the Madison Grange. Many years she worked as a poll worker. She volunteered for the Salvation Army. She also volunteered with the Shrine during the Hartford Fair and Muirfield Golf Tournament. She is survived by her sister, Pearl Osborn of Hanover; nieces and nephews; Delbert (Peg) Osborn of Newark, Lewis (Karen) Osborn, Jr. of Frazeysburg, Calvin (Vicki) Osborn of Hanover, Asa (Marilyn) Osborn of Hanover, Pansy (Bill) Queen of Newark, Joy (Ed) Phillips of Talmadge, Judith (Ron) Hewitt of Hanover, Larry (Kathie) Morrison of Newark, Ray (Mary) Morrison of Newark; special friends, John & Mary Rine of Newark; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, R. Denzil Morrison on June 7, 2005, brother-in-law, Lewis Osborn, Sr.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Herman & Irene Morrison; niece, Janice Osborn; nephew, Jerry Morrison; several aunts and uncles. Calling hours will be observed Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark. Eastern Star services will be held at 5:45 p.m. Monday evening.
