Obituary

On the evening of August 31st, surrounded by loved ones, Gino Tinon, 86, passed away at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, OH.

Gino was born on April 8, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio to Italian immigrants, John and Pia Tinon. Gino attended Westerville High School. After high school Gino joined the Army, serving near the end of WWII, as a medic, treating returning veterans. Upon returning in 1948, Gino became a member of Ironworkers Union Local 172. Gino spent his life proudly building America. Many of those years were spent as a foreman for Hocking Valley Steel Erectors.

Gino was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to play bingo and euchre. Gino was also a lifelong sports fan, with a special love for football. He lettered in football at Westerville High and continued to play in the Army. He loved to be in his favorite chair with the "big game" on. Gino was also an avid golfer, which lead to his long relationship with the Kyber Run Golf Course of Johnstown. He became a fixture at the course; he loved the people and took great pride in helping to maintain the greens. He was never happier than on his mower at Kyber Run.

Gino was an officer and member of The Sons of Italy, Rinascimento Lodge 2486. He was also a member of The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Freemasons and The Shriners.

Gino collected many good friends through out his life. His gruff demeanor was a thin veneer; acquaintances soon found a warm and loving man who would give the shirt off of his back to anyone in need of it. Many will fondly remember what a great Santa he was at Christmas, with his jolly nature and natural white beard. Others will remember him running the kitchen during dozens of spaghetti dinner fund raisers. Still others will just remember a big man with an even bigger heart.

Survived by son and daughter in-law, Larry & Carol Edmister; grandson, Erin Edmister; brother and sister in-law, Furman & Joan Tinon; sister Mary Fox; and many nieces and nephews.

Gino was preceded in death by: his parents; sons, James Robert Tinon and Charles Tinon; daughter, Michelle "Mickey" Preston; brothers, William A. Tinon and Adelmo Tinon; and sister, Madeline "Rina" Warman.
