Gilbert C. Cox, 82, life long resident of Adams Mills, died Sunday evening February 22, 2004 at his home. Mr. Cox was born July 1, 1921 in Adams Mills, a son of the late Prescott Cox and Audrey Cox McMurray. A 1939 graduate of Jefferson High School, he attended Ohio State University and was an elder at Madison Presbyterian Church. He had served fifteen years on both the Jefferson School District Board of Education during the district consolidation and then the newly formed Tri-Valley Board of Education. He was a member of the Elks in Coshocton and the Farm Bureau. A life long family farmer, he had operated the Cox Brothers & Sons Farm with his brother and later his two sons. Surviving are his sons, John (Janet) Cox of Adams Mills, Mark (Nancy) Cox of Dresden, his daughter, Ellen Cox and husband Dr. William Harwayne of New York City, four grandchildren, Dane (Raegen) Cox, Jodi Cox, Jared (Jenny) Cox, Craig Cox and two great grandchildren, Trent Cox and Rachael Cox. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie (Strauss) Cox, whom he married in Ashland, Kentucky on January 10, 1948, and who died on August 16, 1992 and his brother, Wayne Cox, and a nephew, David Cox. Friends may call 5-8PM Wednesday February 25, 2004 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, where services will be held on Thursday at 11AM with Dr. John J. Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in South Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Madison Presbyterian Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
