Obituary

Geraldine M. (Jerry) Lacy, 88 of Dresden, Ohio passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, May 21, 2015 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born October 3, 1926 in Zanesville, Ohio she was the daughter of the late Sanford and Marie (Gifford) Goldsmith. Jerry worked at the Dresden Woolen Mill, Essex Wire and The Longaberger Company. She was a 54 year member of the Dresden American Legion Auxiliary Unit 399 where she was an active member having served as President for four years , Vice President for twelve years, and Historian. She chaired various committees and held the honor of being the 2000 Dresden Homecoming parade Grand Marshal. You could not attend a Dresden American Legion or Legion Auxiliary function and not see Jerry there organizing and participating. Jerry and her dear friend the late Ruth Clark were very active in organizing the yearly trips to the Veterans Hospital in Chillicothe, Ohio. She was an avid card player and enjoyed traveling having visited nearly all of the 50 states.
Jerry is survived by her children Gary (Elaine) Joseph Sr. of Zanesville, Ohio, Diane (Mike) Gill of Zanesfield, Ohio and Darlene (J.D.) Hindel of Dresden; grandchildren Gary (Janet) Joseph Jr, Kim (Tim) York, Terry (Cathy) Gill, Jennifer Parker, Matt (Lori) Joseph, Molly (Mike) Wheeler, Jason (Rachel) Hindel and Troy (Carrie) Hindel; twenty-one great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings Joyce Samson, Patty Ann (Rich) Winters, Robert (Joan) Goldsmith, Ronnie (Pat) Goldsmith, Earl "Butch" Goldsmith and sisters in-law Vera Goldsmith and Harriett Damron and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Cyrus Joseph, whom she married on February 9, 1943 and who was killed in action during WWII on December 27, 1944. Mr. Joseph received the Purple Heart Award. Also preceding her in death was her second husband, Virgil "Mick" Lacy, whom she married on June 11, 1949 and who died December 19, 1972 and two brothers, Richard Goldsmith and Sanford Goldsmith Jr.
Friends and family may call from 11am to 2pm Sunday, May 24, 2015 at the Dresden Chapel of the Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street. Funeral services will be held immediately following the visitation with Rachel Hindel officiating. Burial will be in the Dresden Cemetery.
