Gerald Lee (Smitty) Smythe, 75, of Dresden, died at 12:50pm Saturday May 29, 2004 at his home. Mr. Smythe was born April 24, 1929 in Dresden, a son of the late Owen and Meda (St. Clair) Smythe. He retired from Rockwell Standard in Newark and was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Dresden. Surviving are daughters, Nora (Kenneth) Melton of Spring Hill, Florida, Patty (Dale) Prince of Dresden, Julia Smythe and friend Tim Riley of Newark, Teresa (Michael) Dooley of Dresden, sisters, Essie Brown and Erma Hamby both of Dresden, grandchildren, Brett and Eric Melton, Natalie Prince Swartz, Adam and Lucas Prince, Jessica Price, Coty Beth Hildebrand, Chase and Heath Shroyer, Anna, Claire and Ian Dooley, Shawn Riley; great grandchildren, Peyton and Baylee Melton, Josie Melton, Shawn Statuto, Landon Prince, Spencer Swartz, Lourdes Price, Adrik Price and Landen Shroyer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret M. (Untied) Smythe on March 10, 2001, son, Jeffrey Owen Smythe, a grandson, Austin Shroyer, and two sisters, Louise Dawson and Doris Jones. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8pm Wednesday June 2, 2004 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am Thursday at St. Mary-Mattingly Settlement Catholic Church with Fr. Frank Maynard celebrant. Burial will follow in the Dresden Cemetery.
