Graveside funeral services for Gerald Shubirg, 83, of Newark, Ohio will be held 1:30pm Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at Newark Memorial Gardens with Rev. J. Brooks Gregory officiating.Mr. Shubirg died Sunday, November 20, 2005 at his daughter?s home in Lancaster, Ohio. He was born September 8, 1922 in South Pittsburgh, Tennessee to the late Grover William and Elizabeth Agusta (Hookey) Shubirg. He retired in 1984 with 40 years service from Owens-Corning Fiberglas. He was a charter member of Cox United Methodist Church and he served in the U. S. Navy during World War II.Mr. Shubirg was devoted to his wife and family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty L. (Wiseman) Shubirg, whom he married September 25, 1948; two daughters, Marjorie (Raymond) Hess of Lancaster and Marcia Williams of Hebron; one son, Gerald ?Bill? (Molly) Shubirg of Newark; two step-sons, Ival (Janet) Brobst of Lancaster and Vaughn (Janie) Brobst of Rushville, Ohio; one brother, Cecil (Phyllis) Shubirg of Lancaster; two sister in-laws, Ilene Meadows of Heath, Ohio and Bonnie Glasspoole of Thurston, Ohio; five grandchildren, Kelly (John) Owens of Hebron, Ohio, Halle Hess of Lancaster, Madeline Shubirg, Seth Shubirg and Trent Shubirg of Newark; four step-grandchildren, Michael Brobst, Timothy Brobst, Kenny Brobst and Vonda Brobst; several step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be 5 to 8pm Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark.Memorial contributions may be made to Cox United Methodist Church, 50 South 30th Street, Newark, Ohio 43055.
