George B. Moorehead, 92, of Gratiot, Ohio passed away Thursday evening, July 14, 2016 at his home.
Born March 25, 1924 in Hopewell, Ohio he was a son of the late Cecil and Lillie (Burrier) Morehead and was a 1943 graduate of Hopewell High School. In 1986 he retired from Armco Steel of Zanesville with 35 years of service, working on the hot mills and later as a roll grinder. George was also a school bus driver at Hopewell School and he drove the truck "Pops" delivering limestone for his son and grandson at Moorehead Trucking. He was a member of Gratiot United Methodist Church and was a former member of National Volunteer Trail Fire Department. He loved attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren's sporting events. His favorite sport was baseball. He was a coach for several years in both Hopewell Little League and Babe Ruth League. In his younger years he played in many Zanesville leagues as a pitcher, even trying out for the major leagues before he was injured.
Surviving is his loving wife of 70 years, Imojean (Ankrum) Moorehead whom he married June 15, 1946; a son Dennis Moorehead and his wife, Becki and a daughter, Delores McNamara and her husband, Theodore, all of Gratiot; two grandchildren, Dennis P. (Heather) Moorehead of Zanesville and Kellie A. (Charlie) Hill of Newark and four great grandchildren, Emma Gossett, Jarrett Hill, Parker and Preston Moorehead. Also surviving are two brothers, Marion Moorehead of Zanesville and William Moorehead of South Zanesville; a sister, Phyllis (Ellis) Hill of Zanesville; two sisters in-law, Mary Moorehead of Zanesville and Marie Morehead of Heath; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell, Howard, Frederick and James Moorehead; two sisters, Eleanor Crawford and Sarah Wells and two sisters in-law, Ginny Moorehead and Evelyn Moorehead.
Calling hours will be 4pm to 8pm Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Avenue, Zanesville.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Monday, July 18, 2016 at the funeral home with Pastor Matt Blau and Mr. Jeff Iden officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Fork Cemetery in Gratiot.
