George S. "Butch" Smith, Sr., 86 of Newark passed away Sunday, October 5, 2025 at Licking Memorial Hospital.  George was born March 21, 1939 in Newark to the late Wm. Wendell and Frances K. (Dickey) Smith.

George was a proud alumni and supporter of Hebron High School.  He retired from the Newark Air Force Base and later worked for Target.  He was an active member of the Lakewood Band Boosters for many years.  He was first and foremost a family man who enjoyed time spent with family and friends.

George is survived by his loving wife, Karen (Norman) Smith; children, Steve Smith, Scott (Mary Myers) Smith and Kat Smith; grandchildren, Aurora (Cassidy) Schaufele, Lydia (Hayden) Hardy and Alethea Myers; and extended family, Rana Decker and Taysha Pike.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
