Obituary

A funeral service for George E. Boylan, 93 of Newark will be held Thursday March 26, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Steven D. Osborne officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Mr. Boylan died Sunday March 22, 2009 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born September 5, 1915 in Hanover to the late Harry Maxwell and Mary Margaret (Tonkovic) Boylan. Mr. Boylan retired with 42 years of service from Owens-Corning Fiberglas as an electronics technician at the Granville Research Center. He was a member of the Retirees and 25 year Club and had served as the Fire Chief of the Fire Brigade. He was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local, St. John?s United Church of Christ and NRA. He was a former volunteer for the Madison Twp. FD and a former Boy Scout troop leader. He enjoyed golf, fishing, cutting wood and driving his tractor. He had also sang and played guitar at local events. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII in the last division of the horse cavalry and as a member of the signal corp. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Evelyn Mae (Lawson) Boylan, whom he married January 29, 1939; daughter, Kathleen M. (James A.) Ross of Newark; son, Ronald W. (Suzanne) Boylan of Marysville; sisters, Margaret (Ralph) Daniels of IL., Millie (Robert) Stanton of Newark, Mickie (Charles) Slotterbeck of CA., Mitzi (Tony) Gilmore of MI.; grandchildren, Alicia Noblit of Cincinnati, Perry (Catherine) Boylan of Marysville, Samantha (Andrew) Wills of St. Louisville, Jay (Megan) Bussey of Newark; great-grandchildren, Ethan Boylan, Kylah Bussey, Olivia Wells, Aubree Wells, Bryant Wells; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Barrick, Mabel Matthews; brothers, Frank Boylan, William Boylan and John Boylan. Calling hours will be observed Wednesday March 25, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home 1850 West Main Street.
