Garnet M. (Layton) Birkhimer, 87, of Dresden died at 10:25 AM July 1, 2008 at Autumn Healthcare Of Zanesville where she resided one month. Garnet was born June 3, 1921 in Dresden to the late Samuel and Minnie (Davis) Layton. She devoted her life to raising her eleven children and dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and was a member of the Dresden United Methodist Church. Garnet is survived by sons, Jack (Vicki) Birkhimer, Larry (Theresa) Birkhimer and Dan ?Boone? (Lori) Birkhimer all of Dresden and Bill (Linda) Birkhimer of Zanesville; daughters, Carol(Hazen) Barr and Wanda (Pete Dew) McGee both of Dresden, Norma Headley of Zanesville and Kathy (Jack) Holdsworth of Newark; 29 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Garnet was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. Birkhimer whom she married June 11, 1938 and who died September 28, 1993; sons, Randy, Fred and Frank ?Bud? Birkhimer; a brother, Floyd Layton; sisters, Mildred Bowers, Ruth Layton and Dorothy Lacey. Friends may call 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM Thursday July 3, 2008 at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home in Dresden where services will be held Friday at 1:00 PM Friday July 4, 2008 with Pastor Max Williams officiating.
