Obituary

Fred W. Martin passed away peacefully at home on September 25, 2022, surrounded by family, at the ripe old age of 88; more than doubling his own personal expectation. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on August 21, 1934 to the late Harry Jones and Julia L. (Custer) Martin.

He was proud of his military service in the United States Army, and retiring from Owens Corning Fiberglass after 37 years, but mostly he was proud of his family. And they were very proud of him. He never quite gave himself enough credit for being the amazing father and grandfather that he was, but his children and grandchildren sure knew it.

Fred never thought he would live long enough to see his children graduate from high school. Not only did he see his children graduate, but he saw his three grandchildren graduate. He also got to spend a lot of time with his great-granddaughter, and to recently learn of two more great-grandchildren that are on the way.

He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was funny without trying or necessarily intending to be. He very much enjoyed being frustrated by the game of golf, rarely met a crossword puzzle that he couldn't solve, loved Buckeyes Football, and watching his three grandchildren compete in their various sports as they grew up.

He is survived by his wife, of 56 years, Evelyn J. (Hunkins) Martin; son, Ryan (Heather) Martin; daughter, Lori (Mark) McArtor; grandchildren, Drake (Melodie) McArtor, Drew (Jessica) McArtor, Ashton (Tavien) McArtor; great-granddaughter, Serena McArtor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four sisters, Dorothy (Johnny) Jones, Jean (Bob) Mellars, Barbara Casler, and Betty (Bill) Porter.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 6pm-8pm, at Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 Third Street, Frazeysburg, OH 43822.

Memorial contributions may be made in Fred's name to Nashport United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, 7941 O Bannon Rd., Nashport, OH 43830 or Hospice of Central Ohio. Attn: Philanthropic Development, 2269 Cherry Valley Road, Newark, OH 43055.
