Obituary

Fred Butcher, 78, of Frazeysburg died at 3:20AM Thursday July 21, 2011 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital.

Mr. Butcher was born September 11, 1932 in Zanesville, a son of the late Frank Butcher and Hazel (Settles) Butcher Prior. A veteran of the US Army, he had worked 19 years at the Big Bear store in downtown Zanesville and had retired as a custodian from Zanesville City Schools. A member of Post #399 American Legion in Dresden, had attended St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Zanesville and St. Ann Catholic Church in Dresden. He was a devoted family man, a caring husband, loving father and always looked forward to seeing his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are his children, Jeff (Rita) Butcher of Zanesville, Dean Butcher of Frazeysburg, Tom (Roseann) Butcher of Frazeysburg, Karen (Ted) Crozier of Dresden; a daughter-in-law Trish Butcher of Duncan Falls, a son-in-law, Scott Birkhimer of Dresden; his grandchildren, Josh Butcher, Jodi Birkhimer, Scottie Birkhimer Jr., Lindsey Butcher, Joanna Butcher, Matthew Salmons, Logan Butcher, Lisa Butcher; his great-grandchildren, Paiton, Logan, Thomas, Samantha and Annabelle Butcher, Skyelar Wade, Madalyn Sigman; brothers and sister, Don (Jean) Butcher of Florida, Mike (Sue) Butcher of Gaysport, Geneva Sue (Don) Roberts of Nashport, Steven (Nancy) Butcher of Pataskala, Jennifer (Kenny) Miller of Zanesville and his step father, Ralph Prior of Nashport.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his wife, Carolyn Sue (Quinn) Butcher, whom he married April 16, 1955 and who passed July 25, 1992; a daughter, Lisa Butcher Birkhimer in 1991, a son, Gary Butcher in 2010; two great grandchildren, Frederick and Franklin Butcher; and brothers, Johnny and Ron Butcher.

Friends may call 7-9PM Friday July 22, 2011 and Saturday 2-4 & 7&-9PM at the DRESDEN CHAPEL, VENSIL-ORR & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME, 714 Main Street. A funeral service will be held at 2PM Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Tabby Wollard officiating. Burial will follow in the Dresden Cemetery.
