Obituary

Evelyn Mary Reber, 89, of Granville, OH, formally of Muncie, IN, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Middleton of Granville. She was born December 24, 1932 in Oxford, England to the late Albert and Florence (Dean) Bowler.

Mary met her husband of 68 years, David Reber, while he was serving in the United States Air Force and stationed at Upper Heyford Royal Air Force Base in England. Although never forgetting her English heritage, she became a proud naturalized U.S. citizen in 1958. She was an active member of both the TransAtlantic Brides and Parents Association and the English Club.

Mary considered her greatest accomplishment in life being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was her most cherished possession. Mary was also the family baker; she made delicious pies, tarts, quick breads, cakes and cookies, much to the delight of her great-grandsons!
Over the years, Mary accumulated 39,134 hours of volunteer work at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN and served on the hospital's Women's Auxiliary Board.

Survivors include a daughter, Elaine (Mark) Simmons of Granville, OH; a son, Alan (Glenda) Reber of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Jaclyn (Paul) Callahan of Upper Arlington, OH; Karen (Ty) Alexander of Granville, OH; and Aaron (Carrie) Reber of Whitestown, IN; great grandchildren, Luke and Evan Callahan and Nate and Nolan Alexander; a sister, Megan Cross of Abingdon, England; and many nieces and nephews in the U.S., New Zealand and England.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, David Reber; a sister, Margaret Mobley; and two brothers, Arthur Bowler and Charles Bowler.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests any donations be made in Mary's honor to Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice as they greatly appreciate the care the organization provided. The family would also like to recognize the staff and residents of the Middleton community for their love and support.

A private celebration of Mary's life will take place at a later date at Moundbuilders Country Club, Newark, OH.

The Newark Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
