Eugene J. Riley, 98, of Dresden, formerly of Frazeysburg, Ohio died peacefully Saturday morning, July 28, 2018 at Primrose Retirement Community in Zanesville, Ohio.
Born December 8, 1919 in Frazeysburg, he was a son of the late Armour J. and Bessie (Johnston) Riley and was a 1936 graduate of Frazeysburg High School. He was an Army veteran who served two years overseas during World War II. Eugene was a member of Wakatomika Post 6193, VFW in Frazeysburg and a life time member of the Frazeysburg Presbyterian Church. He was a lifelong farmer and he retired from Rockwell International of Heath, Ohio with 25 years of service.
Surviving are his two sons, Steve Riley of Columbus, Indiana and Tim (Maureen) Riley of Ann Arbor, Michigan; four grandchildren, Tracy (Jason) McKeown, Betsy (Tim) Burke, John Riley and Brenna Riley; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene (Shrimplin) Riley whom he married March 8, 1943 and who died February 8, 2015; two sisters, Alice L. Riley and Helen V. Stickel and three brothers, Frank S., James W. and Joseph M. Riley.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the excellent staff at Primrose Retirement Community of Zanesville for the care, comfort and friendship they provided our Dad.
Calling hours will be 4pm to 8pm Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the funeral home with Chaplain Tim Patton officiating. Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice or to the charity of one's choice.
