Essie T. Brown, 91, of Dresden, died Friday evening October 23, 2009 at Morrison House Hospice in Zanesville. Mrs. Brown was born August 17, 1918 in Cass Township, Muskingum County a daughter of the late Owen and Almeda (St. Clair) Smythe. A life-long member of the Dresden United Methodist Church she was a member of the American Legion Post #399 Auxiliary and had retired from the Dresden IGA. On September 10, 1942 she was married to Gerald Kenneth Brown, who preceded her in death on November 13, 1999. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Patty Brown of Dresden; grandchildren, Stephanie House, Stephen and Rebekah Brown, Sarah and Jason Rollison all of Dresden, Seth Brown of Brooklyn, New York; great-grandchildren, Melissa King, Allison House, Lauren House, Hannah Brown, Jacie Rollison, Colten Rollison all of Dresden; her sister, Erma Hamby of Dresden; nieces and nephews, Paul Dawson, Ruth Cox, Beverly Slaughter, Nancy Ugie, Nora Melton, Patty Prince, Julie Smythe, Teresa Dooley. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in by sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and Melvin Dawson, Doris and Lester Jones, brother-in-law, Carl (Bud) Hamby, brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Margaret Smythe; a grandson, John Robert ?Robbie? House and a niece, Carolyn Dawson. Friends may call 4-8PM Tuesday October 27, 2009 at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, where services will be held on Wednesday at 11AM with Chaplain Tim Patton officiating.
