Obituary

Ervin Don Stobart, 80, of Heath, Ohio died Monday evening, December 28, 2009 at his home.
Born December 15, 1929 in Lathrope, Ohio in Athens County, he was the son of the late Williams Jennings and Freda (North) Stobart. He was a 1950 graduate of Ames-Bern High School and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Stobart retired in 1992 from Dennison University where he had been a painter. He had previously worked in the body shop at Jim Grady Pontiac and he had worked at the Licking Gate Company for 25 years. He was a member of the Plymouth Church of Newark and was the church treasurer for 25 years. Mr. Stobart was the â??officialâ? clock winder of the church. He was also a member of the American Legion and he enjoyed refinishing old furniture and fishing.
Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Sallie Ruth (Spurr) Stobart whom he married June 3, 1956 and â??our childrenâ? Tim Presutti, Tamara Weisgerber, Teresa Aline Schultz, Pamela, Danny and Malea Vanoster and Faith Stone.
Also surviving are two sisters, Vivian (Ben) Canny and Shirley Murphey; his aunt, Clarabelle North, sister in-law, Mildred Ryan; brother in-law, Donald Vanoster; nieces Wanda Birchfield, Donna Matheny, Nancy Bellar, Roberta Stobart, Paula Nichols, Mary Barnhouse, Marilyn Shiflet, Julie Canny and Andrea Sue Webb; nephews, Clair, John, Rick, Martin, Donald and Paul Stobart, Greg and Steve Murphey and Jim Canny; and numerous great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clair, Howard and Lyle Stobart; a sister Nila Vanoster; nieces Fredia Schall, Sara Jane Stobart and nephews, Jeffrey Vanoster and Kippy Presutti.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Sunday, January 3, 2010 at the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Monday, January 4, 2010 at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Settledge and Rev. Fred Lippiat officiating. Burial will be in Newark Memorial Gardens. The Licking County Veterans Alliance will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
