FRAZEYSBURG ? Elsie L. ?Onnie? Howard, 81, of 68 West National Drive, Newark, Ohio, died Monday morning, February 16, 2004 at her home. Born February 27, 1922 in Frazeysburg, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Charles M. and Edith (Shaffer) McFarland and was a 1940 graduate of Frazeysburg High School. Mrs. Howard was retired from the advertising department of the Newark Advocate and was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Newark. She was also a volunteer with the LEADS Clothes Closet in Newark and had been active in many other community service organizations over the years. Surviving is one son, Ralph (Linda) Howard, Jr. of Newark; one daughter, Gaye Gibson of Newark; four grandchildren, Lisa Howard, Debbie (Shane) Summers and Charles Howard, all of Newark, and Laura (Wes) Osborn of Lancaster, Ohio; two great grandchildren, Abigail and Nicholas Summers; two sisters, Mary Moss and Lois (Ralph) Robison, both of Frazeysburg; a close friend, Neil Hunkins of Newark; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph F. Howard, Sr., whom she married September 30, 1944 and who died May 5, 1989. Calling hour will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 110 Third Street, Frazeysburg. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Thursday, February 19, 2004 at the funeral home with Rev. Gary Boggs officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Zanesville, Ohio.
