A funeral service for Dorothy Eileen Coakley, 93 of Newark will be held Thursday January 20, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Newark chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home 1850 West Main Street with Rev. Susan Britton officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be observed from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the services. The family has requested the use of face masks for those in attendance.

Mrs. Coakley passed away Saturday afternoon, January 15, 2022 at the Arlington Care Center. She was born February 27, 1928 in Newark to the late John Varner and Nellie B. (Grimes) Stevens.

Eileen retired from State Farm Insurance. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church and volunteered on church projects.  She was an avid reader having read the Bible three times and was devoted to daily devotions She served as sorority mother for Beta Chapter and was a member of several card clubs with friends. Eileen was wonderful cook and baker, known especially for her chocolate chip cookies.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Marmie of Newark; step-daughter in-law, Leslie Coakley of Aiken, SC; three step-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren: two step great-great- grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews including special niece, Gloria (Neil) Carson of Granville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Forrest Coakley in 1992; sisters, Lucille (Harold) Morrison, Alice (Harold) Woolard, Evelyn Dixon; brothers, Donald Varner, Chester Emch; step-daughter, Sally Coakley; step-son, Tom Coakley.
