Obituary

A funeral service for Edwin Austin MacKnight , 79 of Hanover will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Hanover Presbyterian Church, 732 N. Main Street N.E, Hanover with Rev. Charlsie Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in Hanover Cemetery with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Mr. MacKnight died Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born July 15, 1929 in Napan, New Brunswick, Canada to the late Frank and Hannah (Jardine) MacKnight. Mr. MacKnight retired in 1979 from Newark Air Force Base where he was a Supervisory Production Controller for the Minute Man II Missile Guidance System. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Hanover American Legion Post # 764, 40 & 8, Springfield and Hanover Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary and the Hanover Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marguerite (Skinner) MacKnight, whom he married August 31, 1958; three daughters, Rebecca (Mark) Rhinehart of North Canton, Ohio, Denise (Don) Bacon of Bethesda, MD, Cathi (Doug) Cashmere of Bethesda, MD.; grandchildren, Kierstin Rhinehart, Meredith Rhinehart, Matthew Bacon, Maureen Bacon, Andrew Cashmere, Patrick Cashmere; a brother, John MacKnight of Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada; sisters, Lorraine Gammon, Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada, Erma Gildart of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, Margaret White of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, Mary Allen of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Lois Somers, Eunice Taylor; brothers, Dave MacKnight, Don MacKnight, and Richard MacKnight. Calling hours will be observed 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 23, 2009 at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 West Main Street, Newark. American Legion Services will be held at 8 p.m. and Masonic Services at 8:15 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, P.O.
