Obituary

A funeral service for Edward P. Mills, 74 of Heath will be held Friday November 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of Church of God of Licking County, 2181 Riggs Road, Newark with Pastor Anthony Bartlette officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Bladensburg, Ohio.

Mr. Mills passed away Tuesday November 8, 2011 at the Newark Healthcare Centre after a lengthy illness. He was born July 26, 1937 in Parkersburg, W.Va. to the late Charles and Nellie Weaver-Mills.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judith A. Moran-Lindsey-Mills; sons, John D. Lindsey, Richard E. Mills, Matthew Mills; daughters, Sherry (Roger) Lindsey-Plott, Susanne (Darren) Heilman; grandchildren, Carianne, Carissa, Cirsten, Catelyn Lindsey, Austin, Alexandra, Matthew Mills, Jr, Mallory Allen, Taylor Dunn; great grandchildren, Jocee Welles, Mia Mills; sister, Deanna Dilley of Charlotte, MI; brother, Charles Mills of Parkersburg; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Mills.

Ed was a very caring and loving person. He gave abundantly to organizations in need. He always helped the different community organizations, grandchildren and neighborhood children with purchasing fundraising items. He was a 1955 graduate of Parkersburg High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was wounded while deployed in Korea. Following his service in the Marine Corps he was employed as a mold maker with Brockway Glass. He was then employed by the Newark Air Force Base. He retired in 1999 from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service. He was Boy Scout leader in Parkersburg. He served as Knights of Columbus, Chief of Staff and campaigned for a new building for Kof C Div. # 963. He served as an escort for 4th Division of Staff Command USMC. A member of the American Legion Post # 85, NARFE and a Disabled American Veteran. He received numerous awards in his career. He was a fan of Buckeye Football and NASCAR's Jeff Gordon.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening 6 to 9 p.m. at the Vensil & Chute Funeral Home 1850 West Main Street.

The family requests memorial contributions to the Licking County Veterans Association, P.O. Box 854, Newark, Ohio 43058-0854. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
