NEWARK ? A funeral service for Edward R. Bowen, 76 of Newark will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2009 in the Newark Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Young officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery. Ed died Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Licking Memorial Hospital. He was born March 31, 1933 in Pomeroy to the late Edward Bowen and Marjorie (Bentz) Bowen of Pomeroy. Ed had worked for National City Bank for 30 years. He coached football and baseball for Shadyside in Columbus. Ed enjoyed sports, especially football, baseball, basketball and golf. He loved Ohio State football. He also had an artistic side, and enjoyed painting. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Gladys (Purvis) Bowen, whom he had been devoted to for 26 years; sons, Ted Bowen, Kirk Bowen, and Mark Bowen, all of California; Charlie Bowles of Heath and Robert Maines of Kentucky; brothers, Ernest (Erica) Bowen of Columbus and Michael Bowen of Pomeroy; 4 step grandchildren; several nephews; and 2 loving dogs, his special little girls, Jasmine and Kelsey. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a nephew. Friends and family may visit from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2009 at the Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 1850 W. Main Street, Newark. Memorial contributions may be made to the Homeward Bound Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
