Douglas W. Schumaker, 65, of Zanesville died Friday morning December 13, 2013 at the OSU James Medical Center in Columbus after fighting a very difficult and courageous battle.
Born September 24, 1948 in Coshocton he was a son of the late Glenn W. Schumaker and Anna L. (Hartley) Schumaker of Coshocton and he was a 1967 graduate of Coshocton High School. Doug was also a graduate Ohio University with a Bachelor's degree in psychology. He was a former employee of Cyclops Corporation of Coshocton, but he was most proud of his many years in the field of social work where he assisted and mentored many troubled and challenged children over the years. He was an avid powerlifter and was the holder of many powerlifting records. He was also an avid Ohio State Buckeye's fan and he loved Harleys and racing. Doug was a true animal lover and he was a compassionate caretaker to his many loving pets, his "babies".
Surviving in addition to his mother is his wife, Debbie (Whitten) Rees-Schumaker whom he married August 8, 1998; two daughters, Sherri (Rob) Bullock of Conesville and Desiree (Bradie) Milatovich of Frazeysburg; a son Scott Schumaker; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Sondra, Kaitlyn, Brittany and Brenna; one great grandchild, Blake; two sisters, Cindy (Charlie) Jones and Susie Sturtz both of Wilmington, North Carolina; his brother in-law, Kyle (Linda) Kilgore of Hilliard and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm Monday, December 16, 2013 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Lee officiating. A caring cremation will follow the service.
