Doris E. Grimes-Green-Miller, 92, of Newark, Ohio, formerly of Nashport, Ohio died Friday morning, September 30, 2011 at Arlington Nursing Home in Newark.
Born October 22, 1918 in Zanesville, Ohio she was the daughter of the late Homer and Lucille (West) Grimes and was a 1935 graduate of Adamsville High School. Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and a member of The Church of God At God's Acres in Newark. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, quilting and bird watching.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol (Ralph) Hanby and Margie (Dale) Holtz, both of Nashport; four sons, Roger (Diane) Green of Lockport, New York, Clarence (Beverly) Green of Newark, Marvin (Cindy) Miller of Frazeysburg, Ohio and Steve (Beth) Miller of Dresden, Ohio; two brothers, Don (Ruth) Grimes of Albion, Illinois and Dan Grimes of Granville, Ohio; two sisters, Margie Faith (Bob) Ernst of North Carolina and Amelia Winnie (Doug) Jones of Newark; twenty-five grandchildren; thirty-nine great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter E. Green whom she married March 27, 1937 and who died December 26, 1957; her second husband, Gerald W. "Bill" Miller whom she married May 9, 1960 and who died May 9, 2005; a son, Neil Miller; two brothers, Loren "Joe" Grimes and Myron "Jack" Grimes and two sisters, Thelma Adkinson and Shirley Sidle.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Sunday, October 2, 2011 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street.
Calling hours will also be held 1 hour prior to the service, which will be at 1:30pm Monday, October 3, 2011 at the Church of God at God's Acres, 675 North Cedar Street, Newark, with Pastor Roger L. Decker officiating. Burial will be in Newark Memorial Gardens.
